Time Lapse Photography
What is Time Lapse Photography?
Time Lapse Photography is a well established photographic technique where the frequency at which individual frames are captured (otherwise known as the frame rate) is much lower than that used to view the sequence. When the captured video is played back at the normal speed, time appears to be moving faster, hence “lapsing”. To illustrate this, an image of a scene may be captured at a rate of just one frame per second, then played back at 30 frames per second;. The visual result is an apparent 30 times speed increase. To help illustrate this, it is worth noting that the opposite considerations apply to slow motion where an extremely high frame capture rate is employed to give the impression of time going by more slowly when the clip is played back at normal speed. Time Lapse Photography can therefore be considered the opposite of high speed photography or “slow motion”.
Commercial uses of Time Lapse Photography
Time Lapse Photography is an excellent way for documenting and showcasing project progress, for example, at a construction site where a property is built over a series of weeks or months. We have worked with numerous construction companies and architects where this service provides a valuable record of work completed.
